Our summer programs provide a meaningful opportunity for young artists to explore their emotions, build friendships, and develop their confidence through art.
Position Overview
Art With a Heart is looking for a dedicated Special Programs Instructor for Persons with Disabilities to join our summer programming team for an 8-week contract. Reporting to the Recreational Activities Program Manager, this role plays a key part in supporting the operational functions and facilitation of our Adults with Disabilities Expressive Art summer programs, ensuring that everything runs smoothly behind the scenes and on-site each day.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and facilitate recreational and arts-based activities for adults with disabilities and neurodiverse participants.
- Supporting the Recreational Activities Coordinator in developing program plans and making individualized accommodations to support full participation.
- Maintain open communication with caregivers and participants to address specific needs.
- Collaborate with the broader programming team to ensure alignment with Art With a Heart’s mission and values.
- Create a welcoming and positive environment that encourages self-expression, confidence, and community connection.
Qualifications
- Experience in Recreation Therapy, Disability Studies, Social Work, Inclusive Education, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience working with adults with disabilities or neurodiverse populations.
- Strong understanding of inclusive and person-centered program design.
- Leadership or supervisory experience is an asset.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed and accessibility-focused practices.
- Standard First Aid & CPR-C certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Vulnerable Sector Check (required upon hiring).
- Access to reliable transportation is preferred.

This is a Government of Canada funded job through the Canada Summer Jobs program.
