Our summer programs provide a meaningful opportunity for young artists to explore their emotions, build friendships, and develop their confidence through art.

Position Overview

Art With a Heart is looking for a dedicated and organized Recreation Coordinator to join our summer programming team for an 8-week contract. Reporting to the Recreation Program Manager, this role plays a key part in supporting the operational and administrative functions of our summer programs, ensuring that everything runs smoothly behind the scenes and on-site each day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Recreation Program Manager with day-to-day program operations.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining detailed program schedules and activity plans.
  • Coordinate logistics such as supply organization, room setups, and material distribution.
  • Step into a leadership role when the Recreation Program Manager is unavailable.
  • Manage communications with parents and participants, providing timely updates and support.
  • Track attendance, support documentation, and help with evaluations and feedback collection.
  • Ensure each day runs smoothly by anticipating and addressing logistical needs.
  • Support a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for participants and staff.
  • Uphold Art With a Heart’s mission of creativity, accessibility, and community care.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or coursework in Recreation Management, Child & Youth Work, Education, Social Work, Arts Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Previous experience working in a program, camp, or recreational setting.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable managing logistics and troubleshooting on the fly.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Familiarity with inclusive, accessible, and trauma-informed practices is an asset.
  • Standard First Aid & CPR-C certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Vulnerable Sector Check (required upon hiring).

This is a Government of Canada funded job through the Canada Summer Jobs program. The Applicant must be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment; is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protections Act [S.C. 2001, c.27]; and is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

Job Type: Fixed term contract

Contract length: 8 weeks

Pay: $21.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week
