Art With a Heart is a community-based charity that empowers individuals through expressive arts. We create inclusive and supportive spaces where participants can grow, express themselves, and thrive creatively. Our summer programs provide a meaningful opportunity for young artists to explore their emotions, build friendships, and develop their confidence through art.

Position Overview

Art With a Heart is looking for a dedicated and organized Community Arts Coordinator to join our summer programming team for an 8-week contract. Reporting to the Recreation Coordinator, this role plays a key part in supporting the operational and administrative functions of outreach events and community programming, ensuring that everything runs smoothly behind the scenes and on-site each day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, inclusive art programming at community events across Durham Region.
  • Represent Art With a Heart at pop-up events such as the Whitby Farmers’ Market and Canada Day celebrations.
  • Facilitate workshops for local partner organizations and community groups.
  • Write curriculum tailored to diverse audiences and community needs.
  • Develop and maintain a summer calendar of outreach events and activities.
  • Build relationships with local organizations, agencies, and stakeholders to expand program reach.
  • Train and mentor the Arts and Rec Leader and Community Recreation and Leisure Counselors.
  • Coordinate logistics for outreach events including supplies, transportation, and staff scheduling.
  • Ensure all programming is delivered with a focus on mindfulness, creativity, and inclusion.
  • Collect feedback and adjust programs to better meet community needs.

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Community Development, Arts Education, Recreation, Social Work, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience planning and facilitating community-based programs or events.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Experience working with children, youth, and diverse communities.
  • Knowledge of inclusive and trauma-informed practices.
  • Creative, adaptable, and comfortable in fast-paced public settings.
  • Standard First Aid & CPR-C certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Vulnerable Sector Check (required upon hiring).
  • Must have reliable access to own vehicle

This is a Government of Canada funded job through the Canada Summer Jobs program. The Applicant must be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment; is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protections Act [S.C. 2001, c.27]; and is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

Pay: $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week
