Art With a Heart is a community-based charity that empowers individuals through expressive arts. We create inclusive and supportive spaces where participants can grow, express themselves, and thrive creatively. Our summer programs provide a meaningful opportunity for young artists to explore their emotions, build friendships, and develop their confidence through art.
Position Overview
Art With a Heart is looking for a dedicated and organized Arts and Recreation Leader to join our summer programming team for an 8-week contract. Reporting to the Recreation Coordinator, this role plays a key part in supporting the operational functions and facilitation of delivering arts-based activities at community events, ensuring that everything runs smoothly behind the scenes and on-site each day.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the planning and delivery of arts-based activities at community events (e.g., Whitby Farmers’ Market, Canada Day, and more).
- Transport supplies to and from event locations across the region.
- Set up and take down art stations and activity areas.
- Welcome and engage participants in a friendly, inclusive manner.
- Provide on-site support during programming and help troubleshoot challenges.
- Promote Art With a Heart’s mission of inclusion and connection through creative expression.
- Act as second-in-command to the Community Arts Coordinator during outreach activities.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in community engagement, arts programming, or recreation is an asset.
- Comfortable working in public event settings and with diverse populations.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Positive, flexible attitude and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Must be able to lift and transport supplies.
- Access to reliable transportation is preferred.
- Standard First Aid & CPR-C certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Vulnerable Sector Check (required upon hiring).

This is a Government of Canada funded job through the Canada Summer Jobs program. The Applicant must be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment; is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protections Act [S.C. 2001, c.27]; and is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
